This is an interesting video on a couple of counts, one I am combining 3-different colored Bougainvilleas in one pot; two- I am going to start some foot long cuttings, yes, not your regular size of 6-8 inches but almost double the size we have been always propagating. Should we get started then, alright, here we go…… Let me start by saying, don’t try this project if you have never propagated cuttings the traditional way, what I mean is to start with a few cuttings that are smaller in size first and then attempt this kind of propagation. It’s not difficult but managing a foot-long cutting is way to difficult than the regular size cutting. With some conviction I will go on to say, barring one technique rest of them are all a waste of time, some, might serve you well for the first few weeks but then things will get ugly and disappointment will be even bigger. These are best grown in a container in a conservatory or greenhouse and can be enjoyed outdoors in a sunny spot during the summer. Ideally, this variety of bougainvillea is pretty pruned into a standard, otherwise, it will need a trellis or support. Grow in well-drained, slightly acidic soil. Now when getting a cutting, from a neighbor or from your own garden, the best would be to get one whole branch, it would help the parent plant recover better than making an abrupt cut somewhere at the apex or in the middle.
