Welcome once again, great to have you here. Let us get an understanding of what we will be discussing today and then we will straight dive into it. We are growing Basil from seeds, yes, it’s that simple and along the way, we will pick up pointers on the best soil, when to repot, how to make it grow better so make sure you stay with me through the entire video. Here we go……. The Basil variety we have with us today is Cinnamon Basil. Basil is an annual, or sometimes perennial, herb used for its leaves. Cinnamon basil, also known as Mexican spice basil, has a spicy, fragrant aroma and flavor. It contains methyl cinnamate, giving it a flavor reminiscent of cinnamon. Cinnamon basil has somewhat narrow, slightly serrated, dark green, shiny leaves with reddish-purple veins, which can resemble certain types of mint, and produces small, pink flowers from July to September. So the time to procure the seeds from the plants is anywhere between September and November. Let the seed pods dry for a week in a shaded and dry area. And then separate the chaff from the pods and you will filter the shiny black seeds out. The soil mix- Include a lot of sand (preferably river sand) up to 80% and the rest garden soil. Please note this plant can survive drought and even grow in a nutrient deficient soil however that doesn’t mean you can ignore the plant completely to a level that it dies. Now spread the seeds evenly and cover them with half an inch of soil. And water the pot next day in the evening and then sprinkle water every day so that the top layer doesn't go dry completely The seeds will germinate in about 4-7 days depending on the temperature and humidity Basil grows at a faster rate then most other houseplants, this is what we have after 2 weeks. Now just take care of weeds around the plants. Now, we move to one of the most important steps- repotting or transplanting. This is where more often than not we fail our plants. You need to know the right time, right soil mix, and the perfect watering schedule. In this case, when the basil is about the size of an average palm- that’s the right length to repot or let us say a 1.5-month-old basil sapling can be transplanted. Get the whole root structure uprooted gently and shift to a pot that has exactly the same soil mix which was used during seed germination. Once you look-see that repotting has been done perfectly, after 2 weeks of repotting, you should do something else too, to make your basil plant grow even more aggressively and give you a better leaf harvest every single time. Cut the top of each plant with a pair of scissors- this will do a couple of important things- one- you will have more branches with more leaves to harvest. Two- Basil plants are quite fragile so if you don’t give them a chance to grow more branches right around the base- winds, birds, or pets can easily pluck them out of the ground during the initial few months. Within a few days, we see a couple of extra branches have come out to add stability to our basil crop. That was the video, if you enjoyed it please make sure you like and share!
